WEEE Registration Obligation: What Companies Need to Know

On 25 , Mar 2025 | In | By Alisa Maier

The registration of electrical and electronic equipment is legally required for companies selling such products in Germany. The Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) implements the European WEEE Directive and obliges manufacturers and importers, among others, to register with the Stiftung Elektro-Altgeräte Register (stiftung ear).

Who is affected?

All companies that place electrical devices on the German market for the first time are subject to registration:

  • Producers: Own production or private labels

  • Importers: Import from abroad

  • Foreign companies: Online sellers based abroad selling to end customers

  • Retailers: If the actually obligated supplier is not registered

This obligation applies to both B2C and B2B products, regardless of the quantity sold.

When is professional support worthwhile?

Compliance with the obligations under ElektroG is complex and time-consuming. Professional consulting can help avoid mistakes, speed up the process, and develop customized solutions.

1cc GmbH offers tailored support to ensure secure and legally compliant fulfillment of your obligations.

Additional applicable regulations:

  • Battery Act (BattG): Governs the placing on the market, take-back, and environmentally friendly disposal of batteries and accumulators.

  • Packaging Act (VerpackG): Regulates the placing on the market, take-back, and high-quality recycling of packaging materials.

Complying with legal obligations, such as registration, not only prevents legal consequences but also benefits the environment. 1cc GmbH reliably guides you through the entire process.
