Fulfillment service providers and operators of electronic marketplaces are required by law in Germany to check whether manufacturers or their authorized representatives are properly registered. If this is not the case, fulfillment services may not be provided.
Originally, a transition period until January 01, 2023 was planned for this. This deadline is now to be extended by six months to July 01, 2023. The corresponding amendment to the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) was submitted by the German government in August due to the sharp increase in the number of designations and registrations of authorized representatives with the responsible authority "Stiftung Elektro-Altgeräte Register ear".Due to capacity bottlenecks, the ear foundation cannot process all applications in time, which is why the deadline is to be extended. The Bundestag still has to approve the federal government's application.
