Greece: New Obligations for Producers of Electrical and Electronic Equipment and Batteries

On 07 , Jan 2021 | In | By Gisa Scheschonka

On 1 January 2021, new obligations for producers of electric and electronic equipment (EEE) and batteries entered into effect.

Until end of 2020, producers who place EEE onto the Greek market with built-in batteries only had obligations for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). The regulations covered the registration with the authorities as well as the membership with the Greek WEEE compliance scheme.

The obligations for built-in batteries were covered by the registration with the authority as well as the membership in the Greek WEEE compliance scheme.

As of beginning 2021, batteries incorporated into EEE will be considered as separate waste. This results in additional producer obligations for these types of batteries.

The changes will take effect from the first data-reporting period in February 2021. If you have any questions regarding how these new changes might impact your operations, please contact us at contact@1cc-compliance.com.
