It is only since 1 January 2021 that the United Kingdom formally left the EU market and the European CE framework was replaced by the new UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) regulations.

In most cases, companies will be able to use the current CE mark until 1 January 2022. However, in certain cases involving conformity assessment, the new UKCA marking rules apply to goods being sold in Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland) with immediate effect from 1 January 2021.

Manufacturers, importers, distributors, and retailers are responsible to meet compliance targets for EEE. Manufacturers placing EEE on the market in Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland) must ensure that their products do not exceed the maximum allowed concentration levels of the hazardous substances on homogenous material level. Exemptions that allow these hazardous substances to be used above the threshold level apply to selected materials, systems and applications only. All products in scope must have supporting technical documentation to demonstrate compliance, be labelled with the required information and display the appropriate conformity marking for the UK.

1cc advises its customers to prepare for the new requirements during the grace period. Until 1 January 2023, there is a flexible option to affix the UKCA mark by means of a label, or similar, to the product, packaging, or related documents. Starting 1 January 2023, the UKCA mark must be directly affixed to the product.
