The German Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) has published new Information Obligations according to the German WEEE legislation for EEE Producers and other persons authorized for the collection of WEEE data.
Accordingly, the scope of the existing information requirements for private households has been broadened. Producers must now also provide information on meeting the recycling as well as the separate collection quota. A corresponding reference to the publication by the ministry (BMU) is sufficient for this.

Furthermore, the new Battery Law (BattG) entered into force on 1 January 2021. According to the new regulation, battery producers are obligated to register with the newly created battery producer register located at the stiftung ear, which is also the entity holdings the WEEE producer register. The registration obligation applies to both new market participants as well as producers who are already participating in the German market and are registered with the old battery register.
Additionally, the new Fee Ordinance for WEEE and Batteries (Elektro- und Elektronikgeräte-gesetz Gebührenverordnung) came into effect on 1 January 2021. This ordinance provides the costs for registration and for the change of data in the WEEE or battery producer register at the stiftung ear.
