On 3 July 2021, the amendment to the Packaging Act (VerpackG2) will come into force.
Amongst others, the amendment prescribes
- New information and verification obligations for final packaging distributors that are not subject to system participation such as transport packaging.
- New verification and documentation requirements on the fulfillment of take-back and recovery requirements for packaging that is not required to be licensed, e.g. transport packaging
- Control obligations for operators of electronic marketplaces
- New registration duty for all packaging
- Manufacturers located abroad can assign an AR with the fulfillment of the manufacturer's obligations. However, this does not apply to registration with the Central Packaging Register. This still has to be done personally by the foreign manufacturer.
Various transition periods apply to the aforementioned provisions.
