The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has launched a public consultation on updating the candidate list for substances of very high concern (SVHC) under the REACH Regulation. Stakeholders are invited to provide feedback by October 14, 2024.
When identifying substances of very high concern, the evaluation primarily focuses on the hazardous properties of the substance. The public is asked to provide information on uses, quantities per use, exposure and available alternatives. The current proposal aims to include six new substances in the SVHC list due to their high-risk profile.
The list of substances of very high concern (SVHC) is updated twice a year and it is very likely that these six substances will be added in the next update. This will increase the total number of SVHCs from 241 to 247.
