REACH Candidate List Updated: Now 253 SVHCs

ECHA has updated the REACH Candidate List, increasing the total number of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) to 253.

While the addition of two substances may appear routine, for EU importers and manufacturers this is typically where regulatory pressure begins to build.

Inclusion on the Candidate List immediately triggers obligations under REACH Article 33. Companies must be able to demonstrate substance transparency, reliable supplier data, and defensible documentation – including for complex articles and assemblies.

More importantly, Candidate List inclusion is often the first regulatory signal that a substance may progress toward restriction or authorisation. Waiting for enforcement action is not a compliance strategy.

SVHCs added today:

Name

EC Number

CAS Number

Reason for Inclusion

4,4'-[2,2,2-trifluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethylidene]diphenol and its salts (9)

Toxic for reproduction (Article 57c)

n-hexane

203-777-6

110-54-3

Specific target organ toxicity after repeated exposure (Article 57(f) - human health)

What This Means in Practice

  • If an SVHC is present above 0.1% w/w in an article:

    • REACH Article 33 communication to commercial recipients is mandatory
    • SCIP notification is required for EU operators
    • Customer and enforcement scrutiny increases immediately

This is the moment to contact 1cc GmbH:

  • Review material and substance data
  • Validate supplier declarations
  • Reassess internal compliance workflows
  • Identify exposure in legacy products – not just new designs

Delaying action increases the risk of non-compliance, customer escalation, and commercial disruption. For EU importers in particular, a review now is significantly cheaper than reactive remediation later.

Let’s stay compliant. Let’s stay ahead.
