The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) updated the REACH Candidate List on 27 June 2024. One Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) was added to the list due to its hazardous properties.

Substance name

Reason for inclusion

Examples of use(s)

Bis(α,α-dimethylbenzyl) peroxide

Toxic for reproduction (Article 57c)

Used as a processing aid, e.g. as a flame retardant.

The Candidate List of SVHC for substances that may require authorization in the future, now contains 241 entries (some are groups of chemicals and the overall number is currently more than 486 substances and substances groups) that may cause harm to human health or the environment.

Amongst other requirements, companies are required, according to REACH article 33, to fulfil their legal obligations by communicating the presence of this substance in articles above a concentration of 0.1 % (weight by weight) within the supply chain and ensuring the safe use of the chemical concerned. Since 5 January 2021, the information must also be provided via ECHA's SCIP database.

1cc would be pleased to help you establish compliance programs for the REACH conformity of your products, including support on SCIP notification obligations.
