The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) updated the REACH Candidate List on 17 January 2023. Nine Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) were added to the list due to their hazardous properties.
The Candidate List of SVHC for substances that may require authorization in the future, now contains 233 substances that may cause harm to human health or the environment. The newly added substances are found in electrical or electronic products, namely in components containing flame retardants, paints, coatings, printing inks on the product labels, tonners, coating products or materials that contain plasticizers (e.g., polyvinylchloride), and in use for wire and cable insultations.
Amongst other requirements, companies are required to fulfil their legal obligations by communicating the presence of those substances in articles within the supply chain and ensuring the safe use of the chemicals concerned. In addition, companies have also been obliged to notify ECHA in case their products contain substances of very high concern, since 5 January 2021. This information has to be provided through ECHA´s SCIP database.
We would be pleased to help you understand your individual REACH obligations, including those with respect to SCIP.
