Conflict Minerals: Changes to report templates AMRT 1.2 and EMRT 1.4

The Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) has announced that two important reporting templates are to be amended: Almost two years after its publication, the Pilot Reporting Template (PRT reporting template) has moved beyond the pilot phase. It has now been renamed the Additional Minerals Reporting Template (AMRT). The renaming aims to increase supplier participation in the 2024 reporting cycle. Version 1.2 with German language support is due to be published on October 4, 2024.

In addition, the EMRT 1.4 report template is to be published in April 2025. The scope has been extended to include copper, natural graphite, lithium and nickel. This update is in line with the EU Battery Regulation and will provide more detailed insights into the supply chain through an optional mine-level tab.

What is the AMRT?

The Additional Minerals Reporting Template (AMRT) is a free and standardized tool designed to assist companies in collecting key due diligence data for minerals beyond conflict minerals (3TG). It also includes minerals such as cobalt and mica, for which separate reporting templates exist. The AMRT was developed by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) and improves supply chain transparency so that companies can adhere to responsible sourcing practices and better meet legal and ethical requirements.

Purpose of the AMRT?

The AMRT provides downstream companies with a standardized method for collecting and disclosing information on minerals of concern within their supply chains. While there are specific templates for 3TG (via the CMRT) and for cobalt and mica (via the EMRT), no standardized process has been established for other minerals, so the AMRT is an important tool to fill this gap.

Many companies focus exclusively on 3TG, cobalt and mica and often use different in-house methods for other minerals, leading to inconsistencies and inefficiencies. The AMRT addresses this problem by enabling companies to extend their reporting beyond the CMRT and EMRT framework.
