We announced in our February blog, that Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for industrial and commercial packaging in France would apply as of July 1, 2026. However, at the beginning of the year, several operational questions remained open such as which producer responsibility organizations would receive official authorization for this sector.

In early June, two producer responsibility organizations, already active in the household packaging sector, Citeo and Léko, were officially accredited for the industrial and commercial packaging sector, as well. This paves the way for the operational implementation of the new obligations.

Economic operators that place the subject packaging on the market in France must now take action. Potentially affected parties include businesses acting as producers, importers, or distributors. Commercial/industrial packaging includes product packaging intended for professional users and is subject to specific size and volume criteria, as well as those arising from collection, re-packaging and transport packaging that ends up with professional users.
