The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) updated the REACH Candidate List on 10. June 2022. One Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) was added to the list as it may cause cancer or genetic defects.

The Candidate List of SVHC that may require authorization in the future, now contains 224 substances that may cause harm to human health or the environment. The newly added substance, N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide (CAS - 924-42-5) is used as monomer for polymerization as fluoakryl acrylate copolymer in paints and coatings that may be applied in electrical or electronic products.

Companies have to fulfill their legal obligations in the form of communicating the presence of SVHCs in articles within the supply chain and ensuring the safe use of those chemicals listed in the Candidate List. Companies have to also notify ECHA in case their products contain substances of very high concern as of 5. January 2021. This information has to be provided through ECHA´s SCIP database.

We would be pleased to help you understand your individual REACH obligations, including those with respect to SCIP.
