The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published the new REACH Candidate List on January 17, 2022. Four Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) were added to the list due to their toxicity on reproduction, their PBT and their endocrine disrupting properties.

The Candidate List of SVHC, which may require authorization in the future, now contains 223 substances that can harm human health or environment. The newly added substances can be very often found in electrical or electronic products, namely in the parts needed for the assembling of a product – e.g. in plastics, rubbers, lubricants, adhesives, greases, rubbers, sealants but also in printing ink.

Companies must follow their legal obligations such as communicate presence of these substances in articles within the supply chain and ensure the safe use of these chemicals. From January 5, 2021 onwards, companies also have to notify ECHA in case their products contain substances of very high concern. This information has to be provided through ECHA´s SCIP database.
