The scope of the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act, also known as SCDDA or LkSG, is extended as of 1 January 2024.

The law sets requirements on human rights and environmental protection in the global supply chains and obliges German companies to fulfil due diligence obligations in their supply chains in that respect. Companies must first identify, evaluate and prioritize risks in their supply chains. Based on the results, a policy statement is expected to be published and measures taken to prevent or minimize human rights violations and environmental damage. The law sets defines preventive and remedial measures necessary.

The objective of the Act is to promote more sustainable businesses associated with more sustainable management of supply chains that do not adversely affect human health and/or the environment, for the benefit of all concerned.

The scope of the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act:

  • As of 1 January 2023, applies to companies in Germany with at least 3 000 employees.
  • As of 1January 2024, applies to companies in Germany with at least 1 000 employees.
